Montague Regional High is proud to offer a wide variety of athletic opportunities all year long.  Along with our state of the art indoor gymnasium and fitness centre, Montague High is also home to an outdoor track, two baseball fields, outdoor basketball court, field hockey turf, and two soccer/rugby pitches.

PEI School Athletic Association: The PEISAA is a non-profit organization responsible for school sport programs in PEI public schools.  The association website also lists most sports available by school as well as news on sporting events as well as game schedules and results.

SchoolCash: SchoolCash is an easy and safe to use online portal for paying student fees, including athletic fees.  All fees are to be paid before a student-athlete is eligible to play in a competition.

Student/Parent Athlete Contract: These contracts outline the expectations of student athletes and parents/guardians for school sport participation. These contracts must be signed by both student and parent before the student athlete can participate in competition.

Fees and Uniforms: Students are required to pay an athletic fee for each individual or team sport they participate in. This fee is determined by the number of games during the season as well as other factors such as transportation and officials. Fees can be paid via School Cash accounts or directly to the office. Athletes are responsible for the uniform assigned to them at the beginning of the season. If uniforms are lost or damaged, students are responsible for the cost to replace the uniform.

MRHS Selection Process:The following sports hold tryouts at the beginning of their seasons: Volleyball, soccer, field hockey, basketball, badminton, rugby, softball, ball hockey. Cross country, golf, powerlifting, wrestling and track & field do not always have traditional tryouts. For those sports, team selection varies by sport and will be outlined by the coaches (for example, students must attend a certain number of or certain dates of training sessions outlined by the coaches/school, the student communicates the reason(s) for absence with the coaches when unable to be in attendance).  Generally, any eligible MRHS student who commits to the team, attends practices/competitions and meets the team/school expectations may have the opportunity to compete for the school. Please note there may not be an opportunity for everyone to participate in zone and provincial meets.

Tryouts or “cuts” are done with regards to safety, playing time and to maximize player and team development. Please keep in mind that we compete in a competitive interscholastic league and are preparing our athletes for high school competition. Tryouts may last anywhere from 2-5 days before final teams are selected. At times there may be multiple rounds of “cuts” before the final team is selected. Athletes are expected to attend all tryout dates until final "cuts" are made/posted. The more they attend, the more opportunities the coaches have to see their abilities.  Students are expected to communicate with the coaches if they are unable to attend any tryout time.

All of our teams have a roster cap, this number depends on the sport. The final team selection will generally be made using a combination of the following criteria (in no particular order)*: Skill & Performance, attitude, willing & able to learn new things, positions & roles needed for the team, effort & hustle, player potential, commitment, school grades & behaviour.

The  MRHS administration, AD, and coaches reserve the right to change or modify the tryout process at any point if they feel it is in the best interest of the team and the program. It is ultimately up to the individual coaches to determine the final team and final number of players based on what they feel is best for the team and the overall program.

All athletes who are selected to participate in MRHS athletics must return a signed specific activities release form, concussion form,  as well as a student-athlete and parent contract. Athletic fees will be determined at the beginning of the season and will be communicated to teams.
